Mohammad Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (MBRE) Awards Ceremony

Dubai - United Arab Emirates, 12 January 2010 – The Mohammad Bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (MBRE) awards ceremony in collaboration with Mashreq was held yesterday in Dubai World Trade Centre. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai graced the ceremony with his patronage and kind attendance. The ceremony was attended by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Establishment, H.E. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, Speaker of Federal National Council & CEO of Mashreq, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Shaikh Majed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and a number of senior officials of Dubai Government.

mbre_img2His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, CEO of Mashreq, key support of the Establishment gave a speech about the significant role of the SME sector towards the overall economy and mentioned that honoring those young achievers is a reward for their innovation and talent they use to develop small businesses, which one day will grow to become a main sector for supporting the national economy.

We have been working together with MBRE to ensure the success of several SME development initiatives. Our partnership with MBRE on the Young Business Leader Awards bears testimony to Mashreq's support to this sector regionally, across UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt & Kuwait. We firmly believe that growth of the SME sector provides an important boost to an economy - SME sector constitutes 90% of the financial system in our region. Mashreq has succeeded in becoming a leading name associated with Small & Medium sized Enterprises sector in the UAE through several initiatives and business development activities undertaken to boost this sector."

"Over the years, the UAE top leadership and the government have been taking active steps in bolstering the Emirati entrepreneur participation in the self-employed segment through initiatives like MBRE and Khalifa Fund to Support and Develop Small & Medium Enterprises. Today's award is yet another example of celebrating the success stories of the talented, the creative and the hard working in the SME sector in the Middle East region" added Al Ghurair.

Later, Shaikh Hamdan distributed awards to winners of the fifth edition. The SME Award is also part of a concerted strategy of MBRE to support small and medium businesses in Dubai and provide entrepreneurs with adequate encouragement to grow and develop their businesses. List of winners included Roads and Transportation Authority, Wasl, SS Lootah, Dubai Police, Dubai World Trade Centre and Shaikh Mohammad's Engineering Office.
