Corporate Social Responsibility
Since its inception, Mashreq has been actively involved in many activities that give back to the community it operates in. Be it in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait or Egypt, Mashreq prides itself in demonstrating socially responsible actions which positively impact the community. Mashreq’s Corporate Social Responsibility philosophy is "the integration of stakeholders' and customer's society, community and environment into a company’s business operations."
Globally, companies are beginning to regard CSR as a fundamental element of business and seek ways to develop internal structures and processes that will emphasize it more heavily. Mashreq has played a significant role implementing strict guidelines in the marketplace, preserving the environment, developing sound corporate governance, supporting philanthropy, respecting cultural differences and helping promote the right to education across all levels of society, among others.
While CSR is in its nascent stages in the region, there are many activities through which Mashreq has positively impacted the community. Over the years, the organization has successfully contributed to as well as participated in the improvement of many aspects of the community such as education, sports, arts and culture and humanitarian activities which has helped the institution gain better insights to focus on social and environmental issues. Identifying the right causes has given way to new opportunities for Mashreq to support and NGOs in a win-win situation that benefits everyone.
We have made special headway in the education segment through initiatives collaborating with educational bodies such as, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), creating workshops at colleges on importance of securing better financial status, empowering young entrepreneurs in building and nurturing their new found businesses to providing scholarships to deserving students with financial difficulties. There is a committee which identifies the causes and charitable organizations which creates partnerships with colleges to further contribute in this area.
Acknowledging Mashreq’s continuous efforts towards achieving sustainability, the bank received accreditation by The Dubai Chamber of Commerce CSR label program 2011 as the first UAE National financial institution to accomplish this.
